Hosted by the US president Barak Obama, the G-20 Summit 2009 will be inaugurated in Pittsburgh on Thursday September 24, 2009. It will run for two days. For Pittsburgh, it's a chance to showcase itself to the world.

The leaders of the 19 largest economies and the European Union will participate in this prestigious summit. Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center is the venue for this summit.

On May 28, 2009, the Obama Administration announced Pittsburgh as the venue in order to highlight the city's economic recovery following the collapse of its manufacturing sector in the latter half of the 20th century. According to the White House, the reason of chosing Pittsburgh as the venue was because Pittsburgh today serves as a model for economic and environmental transformation in the United States and abroad.

Though the venue of the summit is the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, other place in the downtown and elsewhere are being used for various purposes. The Xplorian lobby is being used as the welcome center. A dinner for world leaders will be held at the Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens too.
